Lester Martinez (18-0, 15 KOs) vs. Joeshon James (9-0-2, 5 KOs)
What’s at stake: No title at stake
Analysis: Martinez is coming off a unanimous decision victory over veteran, Carlos Gongora and is looking to continue his ascent through the super middleweight rankings. James, an undefeated prospect himself, is looking to continue to upset the apple cart. James destroyed David Stevens in Stevens’ Golden Boy debut and now has his sights set on the hugely talented Martinez. While Martinez is by far the bigger puncher, James does have some sneaky power and can be a tricky opponent. Martinez has the experience advantage, as James is fighting in his first ten-rounder. Expect Martinez to apply intelligent pressure, show his level and stop James in the mid to late rounds.
Gambling Odds
Martinez: -600 ML
James: +400 ML
Prediction: Martinez KO/TKO
Vladimir Hernandez (15-6, 7 KOs) vs. Raul García (13-1-1, 11 KOs)
What’s at stake: No title at stake
Analysis: Hernandez has been known to pull off the upset, with wins over Julian “J-Rock” Williams, Alfredo Angulo, Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson and Guido Schramm. He’s in the unusual position of being the favorite in this bout. García is looking to bounce back from a split decision loss to Leonardo Ruiz. García holds a distinct size, weight, youth and power advantage. However, if he’s anything less what his talent dictates, Hernandez is the wrong guy to fight. I do believe that García will bounce back and pull off the mild upset.
Gambling Odds
Hernandez: -130
García: +100
Prediction: García KO/TKO
Jaycob Gomez (10-0-1, 6 KOs) vs. Jerry Perez (14-4-1, 11 KOs)
What’s at stake: No title at stake
Analysis: Perez is carving himself out a nice career as a prospect and get back fight gatekeeper. He’s been in the ring with Frank Martin, Michel Rivera, JoJo Diaz and most recently, Justin Pauldo. Now he’s up against Gomez, who is trying to find his way in the sport. Gomez struggled his last time out against Jose Arellano and is looking to impress this time. Perez is durable, but his best days are behind him. Expect Gomez to get the nod.
Gambling Odds
Gomez: -800
Perez: +490
Prediction: Gomez Decision
