The undisputed super bantamweight title bout between Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) and TJ Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs) was officially announced at a Tuesday afternoon press conference in Japan. As first reported by Brunch Boxing, the matchup will take place on September 3rd at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
The TV portion of the card will be a tripleheader broadcast on ESPN Plus, featuring two highly anticipated matchups in support of the main event:
Yoshiki Takei (9-0, 8 KOs) will make his first defense of the WBO bantamweight title against the number one contender, Daigo Higa. Higa (21-2-1, 19 KOs), a former WBC flyweight champion on a four-fight win streak, presents a formidable challenge for the undefeated Takei. Takei, who won the belt in May against Jason Moloney, will look to showcase his skills and retain his title in front of an eager audience.
The second bout features a WBA interim junior welterweight title fight between seasoned veteran Ismael Barroso and rising Japanese star Andy Hiraoka. This fight will determine the mandatory challenger to Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. News of the matchup was first reported by Brunch Boxing.
In Japan, the entire card will be exclusively streamed live for free on NTT Docomo’s video distribution service Lemino.
Elsewhere on the card:
Jin Sasaki (17-1-1, 16 KOs) will face Qamil Balla (15-1-1, 8 KOs) for the WBO Asian Pacific welterweight title.
Toshiki Shimomachi (18-1-3, 12 KOs) takes on Ryuya Tsugawa (13-1, 9 KOs) for the Japanese super bantamweight title.
