Kenneth Sims Jr., Cecilia Brækhus Bouts Highlight Vergil Ortiz Undercard

The undercard for the highly anticipated August 10 card at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, headlined by the war between Vergil Ortiz (21-0, 21 KOs) and Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs), is starting to take shape. Sources tell Brunch Boxing that three intriguing fights have been added to the lineup.

The chief support will feature Charles "Bad News" Conwell (19-0, 14 KOs) will go up against Khiary Gray (18-6, 13 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout. Conwell, who made his Golden Boy debut on the Haney-Garcia undercard, will be looking to impress the fans and secure a future matchup against the winner of Ortiz-Bohachuk.

In another matchup, Kenneth Sims Jr. (20-2-1, 7 KOs) will make his Golden Boy debut against the hard-hitting Mexican Jesus "Ricky" Perez (25-5, 18KOs). in a compelling junior welterweight matchup. Sims Jr., known for his technical prowess and resilience, faces a tough challenge in Perez, whose power and aggression have earned him a reputation as a good gatekeeper. Perez is coming off a split decision victory against former champion JoJo Diaz in February.

Also on the card, Cecilia Brækhus (37-2-1, 9 KOs), the former undisputed welterweight champion, will take on Ema Kozin (24-1-1, 12 KOs) for Kozin’s WBC and WBO unified junior middleweight titles. Kozin captured these titles in a unanimous decision victory over Hannah Rankin in November 2023, showcasing her skill and determination on the road. Brækhus, 42, is coming off a majority draw against Terri Harper in October 2023, a bout that demonstrated she still has plenty left in the tank. This fight is poised to be a significant test for both fighters, with Brækhus looking to reclaim her status as a champion and Kozin aiming to solidify her reign.
