Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) has announced another high-profile world title bout as part of the November 15 mega-event headlined by Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. WBC Welterweight Champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios (29-2, 18 KOs) will defend his title for the first time against seasoned veteran Abel Ramos (28-6-2, 22 KOs). This fight, brimming with an intriguing storyline and potential fireworks, adds further depth to an already stacked card.
Barrios’ rise to the WBC welterweight championship has been an impressive one. In a stunning upset, Barrios defeated former champion Yordenis Ugas to claim the interim title. His ascent to full champion status followed Terence Crawford’s decision to vacate the belt and move up to the junior middleweight division. Barrios, known for his relentless style and formidable power, enters the ring on the heels of a unanimous decision victory over Fabian Maidana in May. That fight, part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia pay-per-view event on PBC on Prime, showcased Barrios’ ability to dominate opponents while fighting with precision and poise.
Barrios was previously rumored to fight Filipino legend, Manny Pacquiao on a November pay-per-view. Those plans never materialized after Pacquiao looked terrible in a July exhibition match in Japan.
For Ramos, this fight presents a golden opportunity to put himself back in the title picture. While he has lost three of his last five fights, the hard-hitting veteran is coming off a confidence-boosting TKO victory over Juan Ramon Guzman in April. Ramos, known for his grit and punching power, boasts 22 knockouts in 28 wins and will look to leverage his experience against the younger champion. Ramos’ career has had its ups and downs, but his ability to fight through adversity and capitalize on opportunities keeps him a constant threat in the welterweight division.
Adding an extra layer of intrigue to the matchup is a personal subplot. Ramos scored a 6th-round stoppage victory over Omar Figueroa Jr., the brother of Barrios’ partner, Omayra Figueroa. This history gives Barrios a chance to exact a measure of revenge for his family, further raising the stakes in what promises to be a highly charged bout.
The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson mega-event has already captured the public’s imagination, and this newly added WBC title fight only amplifies the excitement. The event, set to be broadcast on Netflix, will also feature the long-anticipated rematch between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor. With Barrios vs. Ramos now added to the card, fight fans can expect a night of explosive action, high drama, and top-tier boxing from start to finish.
