Tank vs Loma a “Done Deal”: How SHOULD PBC and Top Rank Build the Card?

The long-rumored unification bout between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis and IBF lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko has been described as a “done deal” by sources within the industry. Tabbed for November at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, this highly anticipated unification fight is one of the most exciting matchups in recent boxing history. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is set to meet with Lomachenko to get his final sign-off on the bullet points of the deal.

In a move reminiscent of their highly successful collaboration for Wilder vs. Fury 3 (Efe Ajagba vs Frank Sanchez), sources tell Brunch Boxing that PBC and Top Rank are looking to build this card into a PBC vs. Top Rank showdown, this time in a more expansive way. Fighters from both sides are already engaging in social media discourse to drum up interest.

But what should a PBC vs. Top Rank card look like? If I ran the zoo like Gerald McGrew, here’s what I would do:

Main Event: Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) vs. Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs)

The main event is a clash of styles and personalities. Gervonta Davis, known for his explosive power, speed, athleticism, ring IQ and relentless aggression, will face off against the technical mastery and footwork of Vasyl Lomachenko. This fight promises to be a battle of wits and wills, with Davis’s knockout power against Lomachenko’s precision and movement. The stakes are high, with both fighters looking to unify the lightweight division.

Co-Main Event: Frank Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) vs. Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs)

The co-main event would feature a compelling matchup between rising stars Frank Martin and Keyshawn Davis. Martin’s recent big fight experience and footwork would be tested against the raw talent and athleticism of Keyshawn Davis. This fight is an exciting blend of skill and youth, with both fighters looking to make a statement on a big stage.

2nd Bout: Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) vs. Janibek Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 KOs)

Carlos Adames and Janibek Alimkhanuly present a thrilling middleweight unification contest. Adames, the WBC middleweight champion, known for his power and aggressive style, would face the technically sound and unbeaten IBF and WBO middleweight champion, Alimkhanuly. This bout promises fireworks, with both fighters possessing the ability to end the fight at any moment.

Opener: Brandon Figueroa (25-1, 19 KOs) vs. Luis Alberto “Venado” Lopez (30-2, 17 KOs)

The opener would feature WBC interim featherweight champion, Brandon Figueroa and IBF featherweight champion, Luis Alberto Lopez in a fan-friendly bout. Figueroa’s relentless pressure and volume punching would clash with Lopez’s slick boxing and counter-punching. This fight is guaranteed to be an action-packed affair, setting the tone for the rest of the card.

Prelim Main: Eimantas Stanionis (15-0, 9 KOs) vs. Brian Norman Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs)

In the prelim main event, WBA welterweight champion, Eimantas Stanionis would face WBO welterweight champion, Brian Norman Jr. Stanionis brings a rugged, come-forward style, while Norman Jr. boasts impressive power and finishing ability. This matchup is a showcase of two undefeated champions in a welterweight unification bout, each looking to elevate their career to the next level.

Prelim Opener: Rolly Romero (15-2, 13 KOs) vs. Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KOs)

Opening the prelims, Rolly Romero would take on the young and dynamic Abdullah Mason. Romero’s brash personality and knockout power will be tested against Mason’s speed, power and technical prowess. This fight is a classic veteran versus rising star scenario, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the card.
