Erislandy Lara Bout Being Eyed by Chordale Booker

Chordale Booker wants another shot at a world title, and he has his sights set on WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara.
Booker has officially entered the conversation as a potential challenger for the longtime titleholder after rebuilding his career with back-to-back stoppage victories. The surge comes after Booker fell short in a title bid against Sebastian Fundora in March 2025.
Rather than fading from contention, Booker responded with two impressive knockout wins. As a result, he believes he has earned another opportunity to compete for a world championship.
"I've never been interested in easy fights. Lara is a future Hall of Famer, and beating a name like that changes everything," Booker told Brunch Boxing.
Lara, now 43, is preparing for what has become his annual trip to the ring. The Cuban veteran last fought in December, when he earned a unanimous decision over Johan Gonzalez to retain his WBA middleweight title.
Although Lara is in the later stages of his career, he remains one of boxing's most accomplished champions. His experience and technical skill continue to make him a difficult assignment for anyone in the division.
Booker welcomes that challenge.
The Connecticut native believes he is one of the strongest available contenders and has no interest in waiting for his chance.
"If he wants to fight, I'm ready tomorrow."
Whether Lara's team agrees remains to be seen. Still, Booker has made his intentions clear. A victory over the future Hall of Famer would be the biggest win of his career and could complete one of boxing's most impressive late-career turnarounds.
