A tornado warning has been issued for New York City.

Undefeated Cuban super middleweight contender Osleys “El Tornado” Iglesias may have his next bout lined up. All signs point to a showdown with British fighter Mark Jeffers (20-0, 7 KOs) on July 12 in New York, as part of a stacked card headlined by Edgar Berlanga vs. Hamzah Sheeraz.
“We had the possibility on the table of fighting on the Mbilli vs. Maciej Sulecki card on June 27, but at the last minute, the offer to face the Brit on July 12 in New York came in, and that’s what we’re working on now,” Iglesias shared privately.
Iglesias (13-0, 12 KOs), who is widely regarded as one of the most promising super middleweights in the game, is coming off a dominant fifth-round TKO victory over Petro Ivanov on November 11.

Meanwhile, his promoter—Camille Estephan’s Eye of the Tiger Management—continues to push for the IBF to name Iglesias the mandatory challenger. Immediate paths within the organization appear blocked or at least on hold. Vladimir Shishkin, ranked #2 by the IBF, has petitioned the organization to enforce a bout with the winner of the May 3 showdown in Riyadh between Canelo Álvarez and William Scull. The IBF had previously denied Shishkin an immediate title shot but did promise him a future opportunity, with a negotiation window set from June 12 to August 12.

Kevin Lele Sadjo, another contender within the IBF, is off the table after his team failed to respond to a formal offer from Eye of the Tiger and instead announced a bout against Ahmed Malabo on May 10 in Equatorial Guinea. Sadjo’s team has refused to do business with Eye of the Tiger following a failed bout with Iglesias’ stablemate, Christian Mbilli. They have also petitioned the IBF to bypass Iglesias and order a bout with the next available contender.
Mark Jeffers, who is ranked #7 by the IBF, has emerged as the most viable available option.
“If we reach an agreement for the fight, we’re absolutely in. But the deal isn’t closed yet,” said Kevin Maree, manager at Boxxer, the promotional company behind Jeffers.
The undercard is also expected to feature Shakur Stevenson against William Zepeda, Alberto Puello against Subriel Matías, and an explosive clash between David Morrell and Imam Khataev.
