After the Storm, Boxing Arrives in Miami

10/11/2024

People say that after the storm comes the calm, but this time, after Hurricane Milton, a storm of fists and adrenaline is arriving at the Seminole Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Miami. This venue will open its doors again this Friday, October 11, for another edition of the "Fists of Fury" series, organized by Warriors Boxing and The Heavyweight Factory. The event highlights the presence of three Cuban talents ready to shine in the ring.

The main event of the night will feature the rising middleweight star, Yoenlis Hernández. This bout marks his return after his stunning victory on September 14, when he knocked out José Sánchez Charles in the second round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on the same card where Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez defended his super middleweight titles against Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga.

At 27 years old, Hernández has shown his potential as one of the great prospects in Cuban boxing, maintaining an undefeated professional record with five wins, all by knockout. He is currently highly ranked in two of the most important sanctioning organizations, holding the third spot in the WBA and ninth in the WBC.

His first two fights on U.S. soil took place at the Seminole Hotel. In March, he dispatched Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco in a matter of seconds, and in June, he dominated former world contender Alejandro Barrera, whom he knocked out in seven rounds.

With an outstanding amateur career, where he was a two-time IBA world champion, Yoenlis, known as "Yoyo Diablo," has carved out a space in the prestigious "Team Canelo." He has been the main sparring partner for Saúl Álvarez in his recent training camps, gaining experience under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso, one of the world's most respected trainers.

Another anticipated fight is that of lightweight Armando Martínez (11-0, 10 KOs), who will step into the ring to face American D'Angelo Keyes (18-4, 11 KOs). Martínez, son of the legendary 1980 Moscow Olympic champion of the same name, has spent the first part of his career in the United Arab Emirates. This time, we’ll see how he performs after his stint with the "Team Combat League."

Finally, the undefeated Yan Marcos (11-0, 7 KOs) will look to maintain his momentum when he faces the experienced Mexican Luis Solís (26-20, 22 KOs). This will be his second appearance in the U.S. after having developed most of his professional career in Dubai, just like his compatriot Martínez.
