Ellis is targeting a major return and he’s ready for all challenges. The talented welterweight contender tells Brunch Boxing that he wants in on March 1, on the reported Gervonta “Tank” Davis vs. Lamont Roach event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, under the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) banner.
Ellis (25-1, 16 KOs) recently reignited his career with an emphatic second-round stoppage victory over Brian Damian Chaves. The bout headlined Classic Entertainment and Sports (CES) Boxing’s October 25 “Halloween Knock Out” event at the Oceanside Events Center in Revere, Massachusetts. Televised on DAZN, the fight marked Ellis’ return after a suspension stemming from a July 17 brawl during a Team Combat League (TCL) event in Boston. Ellis showcased his trademark speed and sharpness. Now, he is determined to reestablish himself as a top contender in the 147-pound division.
Ellis signed with PBC in 2022 and debuted with a swift first-round TKO over Jose Marruffo. However, his time on the PBC platform was short lived, when he suffered a controversial majority decision loss to Roiman Villa. Ellis started strong, dominating much of the fight with his speed and precision, but Villa’s two late-round knockdowns swayed the judges’ scorecards in his favor, handing Ellis his first career loss.

“I want the rematch right away,” Ellis said after the fight. “I thought I was dictating the fight… I was winning most of the rounds.” Despite his calls for a second showdown, the rematch never materialized, and both fighters moved in different directions. Villa’s most recent outing ended in a brutal knockout loss to Ricardo Salas, while Ellis has been building momentum for a fresh start.
Ellis is clear about his goals: he wants to get back into the PBC mix and take on meaningful fights. He has drawn interest from Misfits Boxing, ProBox TV, and CES Boxing, but a return to the big stage of PBC—particularly on a marquee Gervonta Davis event—holds the greatest appeal. The opportunity to fight in New York City, under the bright lights, and on the massive Amazon Prime platform is one Ellis says he can’t pass up.

With the welterweight division as wide open as ever, Ellis’ name, hunger for redemption and willingness to face anyone makes him a compelling matchup for anyone.
“I want a real fight,” Ellis told Brunch Boxing. When asked about potential opponents, he didn’t hesitate. “Jamal James, Mykal Fox, the guy who knocked out Villa [Ricardo Salas], Victor Ortiz, even a rematch with Villa. I don’t care. I’ll fight anybody.”
Now, it’s up to PBC to give him the platform—and the opponent—he’s calling for.
