Tonight, at the historic Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan, Salita Promotions presents BIG TIME BOXING USA, headlined by a banger of a heavyweight matchup between knockout artists Brandon Moore and DeAndre Savage.

For Savage, this is far more than another fight on the calendar. It’s a rare chance to perform in front of a Michigan crowd that has long rooted for him from afar. The Flint native has spent the majority of his professional career fighting in places like Colombia, Mexico, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Argentina, making this just the second time in his career that he’ll compete in his home state.

Savage sat down with Brunch Boxing for an exclusive interview ahead of the bout and made it clear just how much this moment means to him.

“It’s a blessing and an honor to have this fight with Brandon Moore. It’s going to be fireworks. It’s going to be a great fight. It’s going to be a good show. It’s electricity. I have all my family there, all my people.”

In front of friends, family, and a Michigan crowd eager to see one of their own shine, DeAndre Savage looks to prove that the road warrior is just as dangerous at home.

A former college football star, Savage’s journey to the boxing ring wasn’t planned. When his football career came to an end, he searched for a way to avoid the hardships that surrounded his hometown.

“I didn’t want to go back to poverty. There’s not much going on in Flint. There’s less opportunities. My big brother, Dion Savage, was boxing. He was signed with Floyd Mayweather back in 2009. I just got in my car, I drove from Texas to Las Vegas and I got in the gym with him. I didn’t even think.

I didn’t know I was going to start boxing.

I got in the gym with him and I was helping him. I just started hitting the bag.”

That spur-of-the-moment decision to go from the gridiron to the boxing ring set Savage on a path that would eventually take him across the globe.

Earlier in his career, Savage first gained attention when a sparring video with Jake Paul went viral. In the video, you saw Paul put Savage on the canvas. Rather than shy away from the attention, Savage embraced it. Even today, he’d still welcome a real fight with Paul in the future.

But for now, all roads lead through Brandon Moore.

Tonight’s heavyweight clash is more than just a fight. The winner moves on to bigger and better opportunities, while the loser goes back to the drawing board. Savage insists he’s ready for whatever Moore brings.

“I hope he comes for the knockout because it’s going to be an early night. I hope he comes for the knockout. He’ll make it easy for me. Come to me. Everything’s gonna open up. I’m gonna punish him. I’m gonna break him down. Hopefully I get knockout of the year after this one. This is going to be crazy. I’m so hungry. I want it so bad. I’m ready to fight.”
