The next chapter in the storied boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico will be written in November.
On November 9, Puerto Rican boxing fans are in for a treat as former world champions Subriel Matías and Emmanuel Rodríguez headline a thrilling six-fight event at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The event, dubbed “Taínos vs. Aztecas,” is being promoted by Juan Orengo’s Fresh Productions Boxing and will showcase a clash of Puerto Rican and Mexican boxing talent.
News of the card first reported by La Hora Del Boxeo’s Carlos Linares and later confirmed by Puerto Rican daily El Nuevo Día.

Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel “Manny” Rodríguez (22-3, 13 KOs), a former IBF Bantamweight Champion, will face the undefeated Mexican José Salas Reyes (15-0, 10 KOs) in an IBF Bantamweight Championship final eliminator. Rodríguez’s camp secured the bout by winning a purse bid on September 17, offering $120,500, while Manny Pacquiao Promotions bid $76,000.
Rodríguez, who briefly held the IBF Bantamweight title, is looking to rebound after losing his championship to Ryosuke Nishida in May, in Japan. Rodríguez had won the title in August 2023, after a dominant unanimous decision victory over Melvin López. Salas Reyes enters the fight with an unbeaten record, fresh off a win against Luis Guzmán Torres in April.

Puerto Rican power puncher Subriel Matías (20-2, 20 KOs) will also look to bounce back in his home country after losing his IBF Junior Welterweight Championship to Australian Liam Paro in June. Matías, known for his relentless pressure and thudding knockout power, will face Mexico’s Roberto Ramírez (26-3-1, 19 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight bout. Ramírez comes into this bout following a TKO victory over Rodolfo Flores Moreno in December 2023.

Both men have previously challenged for world titles and will be fighting to get back in the title picture. Santiago, a Dominican-born fighter, will be looking to continue his momentum and secure another big win in the division. Campa is looking to rebuild his career after some recent setbacks.
The card will also feature Puerto Rican bantamweight Jeyvier Cintrón (12-1, 6 KOs) and Mexican super bantamweight Kevin González (27-1-1, 14 KOs) in separate bouts.
