Cuban super welterweight prospect Yoenis “El Bandolero” Tellez (8-0, 6 KOs) will be back on Saturday, October 19th at the place that has seen him fight on five previous occasions, the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. This time, Tellez will exchange blows with the experienced Venezuelan Johan “Manotas” Gonzalez.
"Fighting an experienced fighter like Johan Gonzalez is a great opportunity to show the world what I'm made of," said Tellez. "He has fought at an elite level and I expect a tough fight. I'm going to leave everything in the ring. On October 19th, I'm going to give my best to put on a great performance and give all the fans a great night of boxing. The Caribe Royale will be on fire."
The fight will serve as a co-main event to a night whose main attraction is the clash between Australian Tim Tszyu and undefeated Russian Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF World Title held by the latter. This PBC on Prime Video event, which is organized by, TGB Promotions, No Limit Boxing and Boxlab Promotions, can be seen in the US and some countries at no extra cost through regular Prime Video subscriptions.
Téllez, who is trained by the legendary Ronnie Shields, is considered one of the main prospects in the division at 24 years old. He currently has an undefeated record of eight victories, six of which were by "fast track." His name rose to stardom when in July of last year in his sixth fight as a professional he spectacularly knocked out Spanish contender Sergio García (34-3, 14 KOs) in the third round at the Crawford-Spence event.
After that victory, Téllez remained in constant activity, achieving a knockout in December against his compatriot Liván Navarro, and then a unanimous decision in April of this year against the previously undefeated American Joseph Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) in what was his last fight also at the Caribe Royale. Now with his eyes set on a new victory, “El Bandolero” seeks to consolidate his status as one of the names to follow in the category.
He will face Johan "Manotas" González (35-3, 34 KOs), a 33-year-old Venezuelan, originally from Valencia, and resident in Las Vegas, where he trains under the guidance of the prestigious Cuban trainer Ismael Salas. With a record of 35 victories, 34 of them by knockout, Manotas has proven to be a born knockout artist. He has losses to former world contender Magomed Kurbanov in 2022, and Jesus Ramos.
"This fight is everything to me, it's a must-win," Gonzalez said. "I'm working hard every day to make sure I leave with my hand held high. My only focus right now is to do everything I can to continue pushing my career forward. I have one mission, victory on October 19."
The other fight confirmed as part of the main card will be the one between Mateo Tapia (17-0, 10 KOs) (a personal friend of Tszyu) and the Venezuelan resident in Mexico Endry Saavedra (16-1, 13 KOs).
Another Cuban prospect, former Olympian super heavyweight Dainier “The Fear” Pero (8-0, 6 KOs) could also appear, according to sources.
